green / white

in collaboration with Eva Engelbert
2-part installation, 2013

GREEN / WHITE is a collaborative installation in two parts, by Eva Engelbert and Katrin Hornek. In the first instance, it consists of a photo-wall with slots for head and arms, papered with a reproduction of the work INCOMPLETE OPEN CUBE 6/13, 1974, by Sol LeWitt. The body of the visitor and the image of the cube merge into a melancholic community, hovering between nostalgia and science fiction.
The sculptural partner—a deformed, painted pedestal object—shows an attempt to achieve a perfectly white surface using green fruits and vegetables as painting devices. Political tactics of green- and whitewashing, where highly polluting companies are portrayed as eco-friendly, are here translated into the art world.
